You are on a team of researchers who are competing for a grant to fund your work on an ancient civilization. If you win the competition, your findings will be exhibited at a national museum and further excavations of your civilization will be funded. Your life's work depends on your presentation! Prove to the museum's board that your civilization is the most interesting and deserves the space in their museum for the public to see.
Use the SPICE charts to begin your research.
Be sure to include at least one map and timeline to orient your audience - the who, when, and where questions.
Grab attention with animation, narration, video and eye-catching graphics! Create some of these yourself to insert into your presentation.
In addition to research, assign particular jobs to team members:
Director - lay out a pacing plan with deadlines to meet your team's goals; make sure your team is addressing the topics and questions that the board is interested in (listed above); keep excitement high for your team while also keeping it focused and on task; assign homework
Publisher - design and implement the presentation; incorporate graphics, sound, and story elements to keep your audience interested; supervise practice of presentation before due date
Bibliographer - maintain and publish a bibliography of sources for all information presented; use standard MLA format; supervise researchers' use of appropriate academic websites (no wikipedia or about.com!)
Author - supervise proofreading and storytelling elements; be sure that drama and excitement is included
Presentations begin Wednesday, Sept. 14. May the best researchers win!
